About Frederick MADE

In December of 2020 I was playing with an idea of creating a virtual marketplace for local artists, since CoVID prevented us from doing pop-ups and vendor events. That idea quickly took a life of its own & we named it Frederick Maker Market. After going back and forth with the details of the plan and what we wanted, we settled with “Frederick Makers” and I started crafting the website so we could host virtual pop-ups and customers could shop from a variety of Frederick-based artists in one place.

As soon as we got into a good routine with the website, people were getting vaccinated and events were popping up around the county. We hosted a few pop-ups, but I thought Frederick needed something more.

At the end of August 2021, I was presented with an opportunity to lease a small space for Frederick Makers to become whatever I wanted it to be. We signed the lease, got the keys and did some improvements on our less than 1,000 SF “house store” on 3rd street, and Frederick MADE was born.

My dream was never to own a store, but it’s what made the most sense for the space we had. We quickly grew to the capacity of what that space could provide us, and decided it was time to expand.

In March of 2022 my dream came true- I was going to be able to open a permanent artists market in the heart of downtown Frederick. Since Frederick MADE was born, we’ve worked with almost 200 local artists and makers and provided a variety of opportunities for makers to grow their business. We’ve welcomed thousands of customers since June, many local, and some from far away.

The goal has always been, and will always be, to provide a space where a maker can do whatever it is they need to grow their business. Whether it’s teaching others, selling their goods through our storefront or joining us at the market, Frederick MADE strives to help local makers grow however they need, and work on making Frederick a destination for artists.
